About Us - History

Army Goodwill School (AGS), Uri, was established on 16th November 2000 as a primary school up to Class V under the aegis of HQ 12 Infantry Brigade. The school was initiated under the Sadhbhavana Project with the aim of providing quality education to the children of Uri and its surrounding remote areas. Affiliated with the Jammu & Kashmir State Board of School Education (JK BOSE), AGS Uri has earned a commendable reputation among the local community over the past twenty-two years.

Initially, the school started with just a few students and classes. Over the years, due to its dedication to quality education and the continuous support of the local community and the Army, the school witnessed substantial growth. In 2014-15, the school introduced the XI standard for Medical and Non-Medical science streams, followed by the XII standard in the subsequent academic year. This expansion allowed students to pursue higher secondary education within their locality, reducing the need to travel long distances.

In response to growing demand and to provide a broader curriculum, AGS Uri introduced the Arts stream in the academic year 2023. This addition was well-received and further solidified the school’s reputation as a comprehensive educational institution. Continuing this trajectory of growth and diversification, the school launched the Commerce stream in 2024, ensuring that students have access to a wide range of academic disciplines.

Presently, AGS Uri caters to 676 students, from Nursery to Class XII. The school’s infrastructure has been continually upgraded to support this growth, including state-of-the-art classrooms, science laboratories, and sports facilities. 

AGS Uri remains dedicated to its mission of delivering excellent educational opportunities to the youth of Uri and fostering their academic and personal growth. The school continues to be a beacon of hope and progress in the region, shaping the future of countless young minds.
